I remember arriving in Winnipeg, Canada, with just the belongings in our hands. The four of us: my mother, father, brother, and I thinking about how cold it was. We had a few relatives who helped make our transition easier. My parents, with their university degrees in Engineering and Traditional Chinese Medicine, were only able to find work in sewing factories to put food on the table and a roof over our heads.
Through the many years, my mother, driven by her passion to help others with their physical suffering, achieved her license in Acupuncture and Traditional Alternative Medicine in Canada. She retired many years ago after helping thousands of people recover from their extreme and often chronic suffering. My parents couldn’t afford dental treatment when we were growing up. Healthcare was provided but, I remember my parents frequently going to the dental office in pain and returning with less teeth; their health gradually declined.
Growing up, my parents were blessed to have met and befriend a lot of good people over the decades who helped us endure the really rough times. Through the help of my parents, family, and friends, I was fortunate enough to complete my studies and achieve my dental degree in 2004. Growing up in “Winterpeg” made me realize that despite the cold weather, it’s the family and friends who warm our hearts and allow us to grow as individuals. My passion, like my mother, is to help others who have pain and are suffering. In doing so, are then able to help create a better future for themselves and their loved ones.
During my journey of becoming who I am, I’ve learned that the words honesty, integrity and trust are corner stones to mine and the values of the office. I believe through these values one develops respect and decency for oneself and for others. We treat everyone who walks through our clinic the way they want to be treated, to the best of our ability. I love being a general dentist because it allows me to help a wide variety of patients, from pain management to creating and maintaining a confident healthy smile.
